Our allies have established or expressed interest in establishing AI Safety Institutes. To ensure we adopt international standards, gain the trust of our allies, and contribute to important safety issues we need to attend.

Australia and New Zealand already share regulatory bodies in the car safety and food manufacturing industries. A joint AISI may be especially adept at collaborating with further international AISIs.

Assurance technology will be critical in ensuring that AI systems operate safely. Regulating existing harms before other countries do may mean New Zealand companies are the first to sell assurance technology.
